Cosmorat

Born, covered in slime and blood, writhing to life somewhere in the Appalachian foothills, Cosmorat has existed long before they coalesced into one. A scream like a banshee echoing off the linoleum floors of the damp, moldy hospital marked their entrance into American soil from the confines of a hospital situated in the ruins of a rusted over steel town. Cosmorat was born with rust flowing through their veins.

Taylor (main songwriter, vocalist, and rhythm guitarist) has been crafting short stories and songs out of any inspiration she finds buried under mounds of trash floating in the banks of the Allegheny river. Raised in an ex-steel town in Pennsylvania, Taylor draws on her experiences of growing up in a depressed area where alcoholism, drugs, and violence were prevalent but also hidden in plain sight. Trying to find beauty in an ancient forest covered in empties and junk, Taylor spent most of her time collecting dead things, sitting by the polluted lake with her friends, and stealing booze from her parents.

Raised Catholic and forced to sing in the church, Taylor heavily pursued classical singing while also attending all of her uncle’s blues gigs in smoke-filled bars. She cites influences from Big Mama Thornton, Johnny Cash, Defiance Ohio, Eric Whitacre, Bukowski, Donald Ray Pollock, and Fiona Apple.

Taylor and Olly met in college and moved to London together. Late-stage capitalism is prevalent everywhere in the west, so Taylor and Olly spend most of their time scoping out abandoned Burger Kings on the A1 and rummaging through the bins of rich neighborhoods. All the same.

Cosmorat is for all the people who like to have dirt under their fingernails and who cry when the sunset over the decomissioned steel mill is far too beautiful to comprehend.
