Just Mustard

Dundalk five-piece Just Mustard have returned with their first new music in three years, the maximalist “POLLYANNA”, a song that pushes the band’s restless innovation to the fore, signalling a moment of evolution for Just Mustard. The band have also announced a select run of shows in intimate venues, which provide a rare opportunity to experience the band’s enveloping sound in close quarters.

“POLLYANNA” feels like a moment of clarity for the band. Their sound has become even more enveloping, a thrilling collision of warped guitars, submerged beats and front woman Katie Ball’s dreamlike vocals pushed higher in the mix than ever before. The sense of disorientation is still there, but there is also a new embrace of directness and melody. The track was part-inspired by a sense of “toxic happiness”, with the titular Pollyanna meaning an excessively positive or optimistic person. The track comes paired with a mesmerising CCTV styled video directed by Katie Ball.

Katie Ball says, “'We shot the video using different CCTV and vhs cameras around our hometown Dundalk trying to have as much fun as possible, the kind of fun that makes you feel sick almost instantly which suits the themes of the song”. 

“POLLYANNA” is the first original music from Just Mustard since 2022’s acclaimed album Heart Under, a record that received praise from The Independent, NME, The Daily Telegraph, Loud & Quiet and more. The band subsequently went on a world tour and have previously supported The Cure, Depeche Mode and Fontaines D.C. The band will be playing select festival dates in 2025 including Green Man Festival in Wales, Electric Picnic in Dublin and a US date at Seisiún Festival in Boston. Stay tuned for more news.
