A year after Carling Academy Birmingham had established itself as the leading live music venue in the Midlands, Bar Academy not only opened its doors in November 2001, but also launched a new direction for AMG and the Academy brand.
Situated in a prime site next door to Carling Academy Birmingham, the 289 capacity Bar Academy is one of the most relaxing bars in the City that is not only perfect for catching up with friends before and after shows at Carling Academy Birmingham; but also the only place to be to check out some of the best gigs and club nights that Birmingham has to offer.
Bar Academy is split over two levels and upstairs is the perfect 'small gig'. Bar Academy boasts a Thunder Ridge Sound System and as a production complete venue, makes it one of the 'must play' stages in the Midlands for touring acts and new and emerging bands. Bar Academy has welcomed a myriad of fabulous acts such as The Rakes, The Cribs, The Libertines, We Are Scientists, The Subways, KT Tunstall, Keane, Razorlight, The Ordinary Boys, The Zutons, and Scissor Sisters, all of whom have gone on to the dizzy heights of superstardom.
Bar Academy is also pivotal in supporting the best bands on the local music scene and hosts the 'Catapult Club', which showcases three band bills every Thursday and indie club night 'Rise' every Friday that presents premier alternative bands.
Bar Academy was designed by AMG's in-house design team and since launching, it has become a welcome addition to Birmingham's lively nightlife and bar culture. In addition to its regular gigs and club events, Bar Academy acts as a pre-club bar to Carling Academy Birmingham's two weekly club nights Ramshackle (every Friday) and Subculture (every Saturday) and of course as the perfect after-show hang out to mingle with stars from the Carling Academy Birmingham stage mid-week.
