CARLING ACADEMY & CARLING ACADEMY 2 BIRMINGHAM

'That the Academy in Dale End has reinvigorated the city's music scene is beyond doubt.' - Birmingham Post

'Brum finally has a mid-sized dedicated rock arena worthy of the name.' - Sunday Mercury

In November 2000, Academy Music Group opened Carling Academy Birmingham, with local heroes Ocean Colour Scene to an ecstatic full house. Birmingham had long been without a medium sized venue until AMG stepped in, building on the success of the award winning flagship venue, Carling Academy Brixton and opened its second Academy branded live music and club venue on the site of former legendary venue, The Hummingbird in Birmingham's City Centre.

Carling Academy Birmingham has fast become Birmingham's premier venue offering the best live events and club nights in the region and becoming a focal point for nightlife in the Midlands. For agents it has become the gig on the UK touring circuit, with music of all genres and artists from across the globe. Recognition has come from the venue's nominations for 'Best Live Venue' in 2005 and 2004; by the readers of NME and the industry's '2004 BEDA Awards' also nominated the Academy in it's 'Best Venue' category; both incredible achievements.

Carling Academy Birmingham developed its secondary 600/400 capacity room, known as 'Carling Academy 2 Birmingham', supporting upcoming acts and local talent. Artists that have gone on to sell out capacity shows at Brixton, such as Scissor Sisters, The Libertines, Kasabian, Keane, The Bees, The Hives and The Strokes have all played intimate sets in here and gone on to achieve enormous worldwide success.

With a Bar Academy venue next door to the main site, the Academy is truly unique in its offering of capacity levels. One of the UK's most talked-about bands, The Libertines were the first group to play all three sites from the 250 capacity Bar Academy, to a 600 capacity audience in Academy 2, right through to selling out the main 3,000 capacity venue. The Academy has also enjoyed consecutive sell-out nights with Arctic Monkeys, The Killers, Snow Patrol, Kaiser Chiefs, Editors, Motorhead, Nine Inch Nails and Groove Armada.

Awards:

- Night Out Awards 2004 Best Concert Venue (over 500)
- Night Out Awards 2004 Club/Club Night
- NME Awards 2004 & 2005 NOMINATION for Best Venue
- BEDA Awards 2004 NOMINATION for Best Venue

The Academy is home to incredibly popular club nights. Every Friday is Ramshackle, awarded 'Best Club Night' in the Midlands by the Birmingham Evening Mail 'Night Out' Awards 2004. Over the last 10 years, Ramshackle has grown to become one of the largest and well established clubs in the country catering for those who appreciate a broad mix of music from break beats and hip hop, to funky classics, indie and northern soul.. Every Saturday is Subculture, the biggest weekly rock night in the Midlands, voted #2 in Kerrang! Magazine's UK Best Club 2004 Readers Poll.

Carling Academy Birmingham is committed to delivering a diverse programme of events and supporting new talent with its great atmosphere and state of the art production and touring facilities.
