Big time snooker comes to the Southampton Guildhall on Thursday 24th September as four of the sport’s biggest names arrive in town for the 2009 PartyPoker.com Premier League Snooker.

Televised live by Sky Sports, the competition features seven of the greatest stars of the game contesting snooker’s most prestigious invitational event.

Top of the bill is reigning World Champion John Higgins. ‘The Wizard of Wishaw’ last won this tournament in 1999 and will be looking to go all the way this year. Higgins will be facing another previous winner of this event; Hong Kong’s Marco Fu.

The other match also promises to be a cracker as flamboyant Aussie Neil Robertson, the World No.9, meets one of sport’s true legends; seven times World Snooker Champion Stephen Hendry who will be looking to add to his tally of six Premier League titles.

Now entering its record-breaking 24th season, Premier League Snooker is the world’s only major snooker tournament played to a league format and plays out on Thursday nights, live on Sky Sports across the UK.

There are two games taking place and both matches are over six frames, with two points for a win and a point for a 3-all draw. Following the round robin section of play, the top four players move forward to the big money play-offs in November.

The field consists of seven of the very best players in the world and each player plays the others once over the best of six frames, making a total of 21 matches.

The other three players making up the League are UK Champion, Shaun Murphy of England, teenage sensation Judd Trump (England) and flamboyant Aussie Neil Robertson.
